The bullet point • is perfect for making lists in places that don’t have a real list button — social bios, plain-text notes, form fields. Unlike most symbols, the standard bullet does have a real Windows Alt code.

Making a plain-text bulleted list

Because • is just a character, you can build a list anywhere by starting each line with it: put a bullet, a space, then your text, and press Enter for the next line. This is how people make tidy lists in Instagram and LinkedIn bios, where there is no list button.

Other bullet styles

For variety there’s the white bullet ◦, the triangular bullet ‣, and the middle dot ·. They have no keypad Alt code — copy them from the table below or use Word’s Alt+X (25E6 for ◦).

Handy tips

• The bullet • (Alt+0149) is the Windows-1252 bullet — it genuinely works with the leading-zero method.
• Don’t confuse • (bullet) with · (middle dot, Alt+0183) — the middle dot is smaller.
• For a real bulleted list in Word or Docs, use the list button; use the • character for plain-text places.
